This season, pearls are definitely having a moment – and we couldn’t be more into it, as evidenced by our own take(inspired by Sarah’s travels to the Amalfi coast) on one of fashion’s most timeless materials. Grown in a freshwater pearl mussel, pearls are created by layers upon layers of nacre forming around an intruding irritant in the mollusk. Nacre is an organic substance, over time the nacre builds over the irritant and a pearl is formed. It's these layers which gives the iridescent effect and revered beauty of pearls. Each pearl is one-of-a-kind and can take up to four years to produce.
